In 1988, long-time
child welfare advocates Terilyn and Andrew Henderson assembled a group
of social workers, parents, community leaders and educators to discuss
a better way of healing the devastating wounds of child maltreatment.
At the time, abused and neglected children were being institutionalized
due to the lack of quality foster care. Many children spent all of their
childhood years moving from foster home to foster home. We felt it was
necessary to move beyond traditional foster care. It was determined that
foster parents needed culturally relevant training, easier access to mental
health services and significantly more social and educational support
for children who were in foster care.
As a result, Families
For Children Inc., a foster care and adoption agency was created.
Over the years Families
For Children has grown from a foster care and adoption agency to a thriving,
multi-service provider. FFC has impacted the lives of more than 1000 children
and has trained hundreds of foster and adoptive parents. FFC has been
featured on local television, radio and in the print media.
Our mission is to
make sure this world is a safe place for our children. The gift of childhood
should not be destroyed by child abuse. At Families For Children Inc.,
we are growing healthy, thriving children, everyday, one child at a time.
We are looking for
caring families that want to make a difference in the lives of our very
special children. Foster care, Adoption, Volunteer Services and Special
Projects are the areas where you are needed most.
